Tested AI Clients
The ATLAS.ti MCP integration is built on the Model Context Protocol, an open standard, so you are welcome to try it with your preferred AI client. MCP is designed around AI clients that can connect to a local MCP server, and compatibility can vary from one client to another depending on how each implements the protocol.
The clients below are the ones the ATLAS.ti team has tested and confirmed to work. We will update this list over time as we validate additional clients.
This list is provided for informational purposes only and reflects the clients we have verified at the time of writing. ATLAS.ti support covers the ATLAS.ti MCP server itself; the configuration and behavior of third-party AI clients are outside the scope of product support. If you need help setting up a particular client, please refer to that client's own documentation. For the most reliable experience, we recommend Claude Desktop.
| Client | Type |
|---|---|
| Claude Desktop (recommended) | Desktop app |
| Claude Code | Command line |
| OpenAI Codex | Desktop app + command line |
| Google Antigravity | Desktop app + command line |
| Google Gemini | Command line (Gemini CLI) |
| Goose | Desktop app |
The MCP integration works the same on both Windows and macOS.
Claude Desktop is our primary, recommended client: it is widely used and offers a straightforward, one-click installation through the MCP bundle. See Setting Up an AI Client for step-by-step instructions.
Using ChatGPT? ChatGPT is one of the best-known AI assistants, but it currently cannot connect to ATLAS.ti. ChatGPT only connects to MCP servers that are publicly hosted on the internet, whereas ATLAS.ti runs its MCP server locally on your computer to keep your data private. This is a limitation of the ChatGPT client, not of ATLAS.ti. We will revisit ChatGPT as its capabilities evolve.
