Working with Multimedia Transcripts
A multimedia transcript consists of two parts: an audio or video part and an associated transcript. It is handled in ATLAS.ti much like a text document, with the additional capability of synchronized audio/video playback.
Synchronized Scrolling
Synchronized scrolling is always active in transcripts. This means that while the multimedia file is playing, the text segment in the transcript between two timestamps is highlighted – and when you reposition the text cursor, the multimedia document seeks to the associated time.
Note that positioning will only be as good as your timestamps. Most transcripts won't have timestamps that are good enough for word-accurate synchronization. ATLAS.ti automatic transcription offers sentence-level accuracy.
If the document does not contain timestamps, ATLAS.ti estimates the synchronization based on the length of the multimedia file and the transcript.
Editing Text
You can edit the text as you would with an ordinary text document. To preserve the invisible timestamps, refrain from deleting large sections of the document at once, and keep your edits small.
